FAQs

Am I required to have a first aid supplies?

Yes. 29 CFR 1910.151(b), “Adequate first aid supplies shall be readily available.” The employer shall ensure that the placement, content, and amount of first aid supplies are adequate for the size and location of each worksite, the number of employees at each worksite, the hazards present at each worksite, and the distance of each worksite from hospitals, clinics, and rescue personnel. OSHA adopts ANSI Z308.1-2021 which establishes the specific minimum fill for first aid cabinets.

I have a bottled eye wash station. Will that be adequate?

No. The bottled eye wash stations are considered supplemental. ANSI Z358.1-2014 requires a 15 min. flow eye wash station where the eyes of a person are at risk for exposure to chemicals, paint, oil or anything caustic. Battery charging stations pose a hazard that requires an eye wash station. The eye wash station should be placed so that access to the station can be reached within 10 seconds or roughly 55 feet away from the area in which these products are being used.

Our office has mostly young people. Do I really need an AED?

Yes, it is highly recommended. Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of death among adults over the age of 40 in the United States and other countries.
